There's too much material.

Updated: Jan 5

There is so much information out there now, thanks to the internet and Youtube. Too much information is bad thing so this is what You Can Do:

  1. Create a Personalised Learning Plan:

Develop a step-by-step roadmap tailored to your goals, current skill level, and interests. This reduces the temptation to jump between topics.

  2. Curate Resources:

Save or prioritise high-quality material that aligns with your learning objectives, like specific techniques, exercises, or songs.

  3. Set Short-Term Goals:

Break down your learning into manageable chunks with clear, achievable milestones. This helps to build motivation and consistency.

  4. Establish a Practice Routine:

Organise your practice sessions with a focus on consistent progress. Keep a diary or practice journal to make sure you are focusing your efforts in the right places.

  5. Encourage Feedback and reflection:

Learn to evaluate your progress and focus on quality over quantity in your practice routines. Feedback is a valuable skill so you can learn from past mistakes or experiences.

Learn to acknowledge:

  1. Acknowledge your Feelings:

    • "I understand—it can feel overwhelming with so many options. It's a common challenge for many learners."

  2. Reassurance:

    • "The good news is that you don’t need to learn everything all at once. What matters is focusing on what helps you grow right now."

  3. Provide Structure:

    • "Let’s create a plan together so you know exactly what to work on. I’ll guide you through it step by step."

  4. Encourage Consistency:

    • "It’s better to practice a few things well than to try to learn everything at once. Consistency is key."

  5. Motivation:

    • "Remember, learning music is a journey. Every small step adds up over time, so don’t worry about the rest of the material for now. You’ll get there."

By narrowing your focus, you’ll feel more confident and make steady progress.
